What the Schlage L9692EU Actually Does
The Schlage L9692EU runs one function that separates it from every other L-Series function: it controls the outside lever electronically while simultaneously providing motorized latch retraction. Those are two distinct electrified operations working in the same chassis.
On a mechanical storeroom lock like the L9080, the outside lever is permanently fixed. The door only opens from outside with a key. On the L9580, motorized latch retraction lets the door release on signal, but the outside lever remains mechanically fixed. The L9692EU adds a third layer: the outside lever itself can be electrically locked or unlocked in addition to latch retraction. EL Mode vs EU Mode: Which One Does Your Opening Need
The EL and EU designations in the model name refer to the operating mode of the electrified lever, not the latch retraction. Latch retraction behavior is the same in both modes: powered means latch retracted, unpowered means latch extended. The mode only affects what the lever does.

The L9692EU controls only the outside lever. The inside lever is always free. Outside access requires a key in the outside cylinder, or the access control system unlocking the lever electronically. RX: Request to Exit
RX is a switch that closes when the inside lever rotates. It signals the access control panel that a valid exit is occurring from inside the secured area. The L9692EU is a precision electromechanical assembly. Most field failures trace back to one of four installation errors rather than a defective unit.
1. Sharing a Circuit with Solenoid Hardware Without Transient Suppression
