Deadbolt Parts and Diagrams

Schlage's B Series has been the commercial and institutional deadbolt standard for decades, and the parts catalog has stayed consistent enough that a component ordered today fits a B Series deadbolt installed back in the 1990s. We stock cylinders, strikes, tailpieces, and trim for the B250, B260, B350, B360, B500, and B600 lines. Confirm your exact model before ordering, since backset, cylinder type, and strike dimensions all vary across the range.

Reading your Schlage B Series model number

Before anything goes in the cart, you need to know which B Series model is on the door, because that single detail determines the cylinder type, the backset, and the tailpiece profile you need. Grade 1 models (B250, B252, B500, B600 family) use a 1-inch hardened steel bolt with an anti-saw pin. Grade 2 models (B350, B352) step down to a 5/8-inch throw. Single-cylinder versions like the B250 and B350 use a thumbturn on the interior side with a key outside. Double-cylinder versions like the B252 and B352 require a key on both sides, typically specified where an inside key override through a broken door pane is a security concern, though many fire and life-safety codes restrict double-cylinder deadbolts on doors along a means of egress, so check local code before specifying one.

Cylinder and key system options

Schlage B Series deadbolts support conventional, full-size interchangeable core (FSIC), and small-format interchangeable core (SFIC) cylinder formats, plus the Everest 29 and Primus high-security cylinder lines for buildings that need restricted key control. If the building already runs an Everest or Primus key system, ordering the matching cylinder type keeps the new deadbolt on the same master key as the rest of the property instead of creating an odd one out that needs its own key.

Strikes and backset

The standard commercial strike is the 10-025, an ANSI strike measuring 1-1/4 inch by 4-7/8 inch with no box, and it covers most B Series installations. Backset is adjustable between 2-3/8 inch and 2-3/4 inch on most models, with some fire-rated configurations offering a fixed 5-inch backset. Get the backset wrong and the bolt won't align with the strike, full stop, so measure from the edge of the door to the center of the bolt hole before ordering a replacement lock case.

Common failure points

Latch and bolt failure is more often physical damage from a door slamming against a misaligned strike than internal wear. A bent bolt that won't retract cleanly is the most common symptom we hear about. Tailpiece problems usually trace back to incorrect orientation rather than a defective part, the tailpiece has to align with the bolt rotation mechanism before the set screw gets tightened, and getting that wrong looks identical to a broken lock from the outside.

Why order Schlage deadbolt parts from Security Parts

We've supplied commercial door hardware parts since 2001, and the B Series catalog is one we know down to the cylinder format. Because Schlage B Series deadbolts stay consistent across decades of production, we carry parts for current and older models alike, ship most in-stock orders same day, and offer free shipping on orders of $300 and up. If you're not certain which B250, B500, or B600 variant is on the door, send us the function and a photo of the strike and we can confirm the exact part before you order.

What's the difference between a B250 and a B500?

Both are Grade 1, but the B500 series adds more function options and finish choices, plus optional fire rating and status indication trim.

Are double-cylinder deadbolts allowed on exit doors?

Often restricted by local fire code on doors along a means of egress, since they can trap occupants without a key. Confirm with your local code before specifying one.

Can I keep my existing key system with a new deadbolt?

Yes, order the matching cylinder format, conventional, FSIC, SFIC, Everest, or Primus, to stay on the building's existing master key.

What backset do I need?

Measure from the door edge to the center of the bolt hole. Most B Series deadbolts adjust between 2-3/8 inch and 2-3/4 inch.

Why won't my deadbolt retract?

Usually a bent bolt from door slam damage or a misaligned tailpiece rather than a worn cylinder. Check alignment before replacing the whole lock case.

Do you sell genuine Schlage deadbolt parts?

Yes, we stock OEM Schlage components alongside compatible aftermarket parts, and we'll tell you which is which before you order.

How quickly can I get deadbolt parts shipped?

Most in-stock deadbolt parts ship same day, with free shipping on orders of $300 and up.
