Falcon 650375, 24-V Top Latch Case - Fire

For 25-V Device

When the top latch case on a fire-rated Falcon surface vertical rod exit device fails, you can't swap in just any replacement. The Falcon 650375 Top Latch Case is the fire-rated version, and that distinction matters more than most people realize when they're ordering a replacement part under pressure. Putting the wrong latch case on a fire-rated door is a code violation, and it's the kind of thing that gets caught during inspections in the worst possible moment.

This is the part you need when you're working on fire-rated Falcon 24-V or 25-V surface vertical rod devices. The old Monarch part number for this same latch case was F588, so if you're cross-referencing from older documentation, that's the number you'll see. The 650375 replaced it when Falcon standardized the numbering.

Fire Rated vs. Panic: Why You Can't Swap These

The fire-rated top latch case and the panic (non-fire) top latch case look similar, but they're not interchangeable. The non-fire version is part number 650389, and the fire-rated version is the 650375 you're looking at here. The core difference is that fire-rated devices must be self-latching at all times. You can't dog a fire-rated exit device in the open position. That's what the fire code requires, and the 650375 is built to meet it.

If your existing device can be dogged open for normal use, you're looking at a panic device, not a fire-rated one, and you'd need the non-fire version instead. If your device has no dogging capability and must latch every time the door closes, the 650375 is your part.

Compatible Falcon Models

The 650375 top latch case is confirmed for the following Falcon surface vertical rod devices: the F-18-V, F-19-V, F-24-V, F-25-V, and F-XX-V. These are all fire-rated surface vertical rod configurations across the Falcon 19, 24, and 25 Series. The top latch features a 3/4 inch stainless steel throw with a deadlocking latch standard, which gives you the positive engagement needed on fire-rated door openings in commercial buildings.

If you're working through a full SVR service job on these models, our Falcon parts catalog covers a wide range of 19, 24, and 25 Series components. For a broader look across all exit device brands and types, the exit devices section is worth checking so you can consolidate your order.

Where This Latch Case Gets Used

Fire-rated surface vertical rod exit devices show up on stairwell doors, corridor doors in schools and hospitals, and building egress paths in commercial construction where the door assembly carries a fire rating. These are exactly the locations where self-latching hardware is non-negotiable. A failed top latch case on a fire door isn't just an inconvenience; it's a life safety issue and a code deficiency that needs to be resolved the right way with the correct rated component.
