The Falcon 600273 is the OEM slider assembly for the Falcon 24 and 25 Series outside trim, covering the 510 (classroom lever), 512 (thumbpiece), and 513 (knob) trim configurations. It is Item "b" in the Falcon 19/24/25 and XX Series Service Manual outside trim parts breakdown - positioned directly behind the backplate assembly (600272) in the trim diagram. The slider is the internal mechanical component that translates cylinder cam rotation into lever or knob control, determining whether the outside trim operates the latch bolt or is mechanically blocked from doing so.
This is a non-vandal-resistant slider. The VR (Vandal Resistant) 511L trim uses a separate slider assembly (600282). If the installed trim is the 511L, that's a different part. Confirm trim type before ordering.
What the Slider Does Inside the 25 Series Outside Trim
The outside trim on a keyed Falcon exit device does more than just provide a handle to pull. On a keyed trim function, the slider is what makes the cylinder operation meaningful. Here's the basic sequence:
When the key is inserted and turned in the outside cylinder, the cylinder cam rotates. That cam rotation pushes or pulls the slider inside the trim housing. The slider moves linearly - it slides, which is exactly what the name describes - and its position determines whether the lever or knob hub is mechanically engaged or disengaged from the latch mechanism. In the unlocked state, the slider allows the lever to turn freely and retract the latch. In the locked state, the slider blocks the lever from transmitting rotation to the latch. The lever still moves (thanks to the Pressure Release design in the T/25 Series chassis), but no motion reaches the latch.
When the slider fails, one of two things happens. Either the trim stops responding to the cylinder - the key turns but the lock state doesn't change - or the trim stops operating correctly in one direction, getting stuck in locked or unlocked state. Both require replacing the slider assembly. The 600273 is the correct replacement for the 510, 512, and 513 trim functions on the 24 and 25 Series.
Falcon Exit Device Catalog: 510, 512, and 513 Trim Function Differences
All three trim functions that use the 600273 slider are outside keyed trim for Falcon panic exit devices, but they operate differently:
510 = Classroom function. Outside lever locked/unlocked by key. Used in K-12 schools and institutional corridors where outside access control is needed. The most common keyed trim in institutional applications.
512 = Thumbpiece trim. An outside thumbpiece (a smaller pressed-bar format rather than a full rotating lever or knob) operates the latch. Key control is the same function as 510 but the ergonomic format differs. Often specified on narrow stile aluminum storefront applications.
513 = Knob trim. The outside knob (rotating rather than lever) is controlled by a key. Less common in new specifications but found in existing installations and specific aesthetic applications.
All three share the same slider assembly geometry because the cylinder-to-hub control interface is the same regardless of whether the hub drives a lever, thumbpiece, or knob. That shared geometry is why the 600273 covers all three from one part number.
Falcon Slider Assembly: 25 Series Trim Parts in Context
The 25 Series outside trim disassembles into seven individual serviceable parts per the Falcon service manual. The full list: 600272 (backplate assembly), 600273 (slider assembly, this product), 600274 (lever springs, pack of 2), 600275 (locking hook package), 600276 (spindle cam package), 090041 (hook spring package), and 600278 (trim cylinder nut). Each is a separately orderable field replacement part. The slider assembly is the most mechanically complex of the seven and is the component most likely to require replacement when the trim's locking function degrades from wear.
