The Schlage THP-8219-CH is the OEM privacy latch assembly for the Schlage LT Series Grade 2 tubular levered lock, designed specifically for 1-3/8" thin doors. It ships with a 2-3/8" backset and a 1" x 2-1/4" square faceplate, and includes the mounting screws. Available in seven finishes: 630 Satin Stainless Steel, 612 Satin Bronze, 613 Oil Rubbed Bronze, 605 Bright Brass, 643E Aged Bronze, 622 Powder-Coated Matte Black, and 609 Antique Brass. Finish must be specified at time of order.
This is the field replacement latch when an LT Series privacy lock is no longer latching cleanly, the spring bolt is dragging, or the latch assembly needs to be swapped to match a change in door backset or thickness. It is not a full lock replacement — it is the latch body assembly only, used to service an existing LT Series installation.
What the Schlage THP-8219 Privacy Latch Assembly Does
The privacy latch serves a specific mechanical function distinct from a passage or entry latch. The spring-loaded bolt retracts freely when the lever is turned from either side under normal conditions. When the inside privacy button is engaged, the outside lever is disconnected from the latch retraction mechanism — turning the lever from outside will not retract the bolt, keeping the door secured from inside. This is the standard privacy function for bathrooms, bedrooms, hotel rooms, and any room requiring interior locking without keyed access control.
The inside lever always retracts the bolt and releases the privacy lock simultaneously, so egress from inside is never compromised. Most LT Series privacy locks also incorporate an emergency release on the outside lever or rose — a small pinhole or slot that accepts a coin or narrow tool to release the interior button lock in emergencies.
Schlage Latch Assembly Backset and Door Thickness Compatibility
The THP-8219-CH is the 2-3/8" backset version, which is the short backset designed for 1-3/8" thin doors. The 2-3/8" measurement is the distance from the edge of the door to the center of the latch bolt spindle. If the door is standard residential thickness (1-3/4" or thicker), the correct privacy latch is the THP-8319-CH, which uses a 2-3/4" backset with a 1-1/8" x 2-1/4" square faceplate. The faceplate dimension also changes between these two: the THP-8219-CH uses a 1" wide face, while the THP-8319-CH uses a 1-1/8" wide face. Ordering the wrong backset will result in a latch that either doesn't reach the strike or protrudes incorrectly from the door edge.
Confirm door thickness before ordering. The THP-8219-CH is explicitly rated for 1-3/8" doors. It is not the correct part for standard 1-3/4" interior doors.
Schlage Door Latch Assembly Diagram: Understanding the LT Series Latch Family
Within the LT Series latch catalog, the THP part numbers follow a consistent pattern. THP-8201-CH is the passage latch at 2-3/8" backset (no locking function). THP-8219-CH is the privacy latch at 2-3/8" backset (this product). The fire-rated version, THP-8219-F-CH, adds UL 3-hour fire rating for doors requiring fire-rated hardware. The "F" suffix in the Schlage LT latch catalog always indicates the fire-rated variant of the same latch.
Schlage LT Series latches ship in finished chrome (CH designation in the part number), with the finish code appended at time of order. The CH designation identifies the chrome-finish housing; all seven available finishes listed on this page use the same latch body and spring mechanism — only the faceplate and exterior finish differ.
