The CON-KIT covers both 4-pin and 8-pin connector configurations because Von Duprin uses both across its electrified product line.

4-pin connectors handle simpler electrical paths - typically a two-wire power supply plus a two-wire signal or monitoring output. A request-to-exit (RX) switch connection or a simple alarm circuit connection typically uses the 4-pin format.

8-pin connectors handle more complex multi-wire paths - motorized trim with power, direction control, position feedback, and monitoring outputs may require 8 connection points to carry all signals between components. The M996L motorized trim connection is a typical 8-pin application.

Having 10 connectors of each type and configuration in one kit means a field technician can address both simple and complex connector failures from the same service stock without carrying separate 4-pin and 8-pin parts.

The Extraction Tool: Why It's Critical

The extraction tool included in the CON-KIT is the specialized instrument for removing individual terminals from connector housings. Each terminal is locked in its cavity by a small internal locking lance - a flexible plastic tab that snaps over a feature on the terminal to hold it in place. Without the extraction tool, the only way to remove a terminal from a housing is to destroy the housing or damage the terminal.

The extraction tool depresses that locking lance cleanly, releasing the terminal so it can be pulled out intact. This allows single-terminal repairs on a multi-pin connector without replacing the entire connector assembly. If only one of the four or eight terminals in a connector has failed, the extraction tool saves the remaining terminals and the housing - only the one damaged terminal gets replaced.
