What the Schlage B664 Is

The B664 is the Schlage B Series cylinder-only deadbolt, ANSI Function E0101. "Cylinder only" means the deadbolt has a key-operated cylinder on the outside of the door with no inside trim - no thumbturn, no lever, no inside operating hardware. The deadbolt bolt is thrown and retracted entirely from the outside with a key.

This specific function is used for secondary access points where a deadbolt is needed for keyed outside control but standard inside thumb turn hardware is either not required or handled by a separate passage set. Electrical rooms, utility closets, back-of-house retail doors, and mechanical equipment rooms are the most common B664 applications. The outside key controls the bolt; occupants inside exit through the door without operating a separate deadbolt.

The B664 uses a Full Size Interchangeable Core (FSIC) cylinder as its standard format - allowing the facility to swap cores into the existing housing without removing the lock from the door. The bolt is 1" throw with a saw-resistant hardened steel insert running through the zinc bolt body, which prevents the bolt from being cut through with a hacksaw under normal attack conditions. Standard B664 models fit doors from 1-3/8" to 1-3/4" thick, with extended models available for thicker doors.

Schlage Support Anchor: Why This Component Matters

The support anchor in the B610-035 is the internal structural component that mounts within the door bore and provides a rigid seat for the B664 cylinder housing. The cylinder housing surrounds the FSIC cylinder assembly and must be held firmly in the door bore to prevent rotation or axial displacement.

Key cylinders are torqued every time someone operates the lock - especially in commercial applications where multiple key-ins per day are routine. Over time, a cylinder housing without proper anchor support can rotate or loosen within the bore, which creates wobble in the cylinder that makes key insertion inconsistent and eventually allows the housing to shift enough that the deadbolt mechanism misaligns with the bolt bore. The B610-035 anchor prevents all of this by fixing the housing in position with positive mechanical engagement.

Schlage B Series Deadbolt: B664 vs Standard B-Series Functions

The B664's cylinder-only function distinguishes it from the standard single-cylinder (B60N, B160N) and double-cylinder (B62N) functions in the B Series lineup. Standard single-cylinder deadbolts have a thumbturn on the inside. The B664 has no inside trim at all - the deadbolt is strictly a one-sided keyed operation. This matters for the support anchor application because the B664 cylinder housing carries the full functional load of the lock on one side, making structural anchor integrity more critical than on a standard two-sided installation.
