The LCN 2011-3071 is the OEM standard cylinder assembly for the LCN 2010 Series concealed overhead door closer, Size 1, with mounting plate and adjustable hydraulic backcheck. The "2011" in the part number identifies this as the Size 1 cylinder in the 2010 Series. Size 1 is the lightest spring tension in the range, sized for narrower or lighter doors where minimal closing force is specified. Finish and handing must be specified at time of order. The cylinder assembly is handled because it installs in the door frame on a specific side and the mounting orientation is fixed.

The cylinder assembly does not include the arm or the track. The arm and track are separate components that install in the door top rail. The 2011-3071 covers the frame-side cylinder body and its finish plate only.

LCN 2010 Series: What Makes This a Concealed Closer

The LCN 2010 is completely different from a surface-mounted door closer. Where a surface closer (like the 4000 or 4040 Series) mounts visibly on the door or frame face with an exposed arm mechanism, the 2010 has no visible hardware on the door face at all. The hydraulic cylinder is installed inside the door frame header. The single-lever arm and roller assembly are concealed inside the door's top rail. The only visible indication that a door is controlled is the small track that runs along the door top edge - and even that is surface-mounted with a low profile.

This concealed configuration is why the 2010 is the standard specification for institutional applications where exposed closer arms are a liability - behavioral health facilities, schools, courthouses, government buildings, and any application where the arm could become a ligature attachment point or could be damaged by abuse. It's also the specification for high-end architectural projects where door hardware aesthetics matter.

The 2010 cylinder is high-strength cast iron with a one-piece forged steel piston, all-weather hydraulic fluid, and a full-complement low-friction bearing. Regulating screws are tamper-resistant, which is standard for institutional applications. The arm is forged steel. The assembly is ANSI/BHMA A156.4 Grade 1 certified to 1,500,000 cycles and carries a 15-year warranty.

LCN Door Closer Parts: Size 1 and the 2010 Series Size Chart

The 2010 Series cylinder is available in five sizes: 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6. There is no size 2 in this series. Size selection is based on door width - the LCN 2010 catalog provides a size chart that maps door width ranges to the appropriate cylinder size. Size 1 covers the narrowest/lightest applications. Size 6 covers heavy or wide doors and exterior doors in strong draft conditions. Closing power can be increased 15% by specifying the next higher size, which is recommended where consistent strong drafts or stack pressure would affect reliable door closing.

The Size 1 (this assembly) is the correct choice for interior doors in the narrowest applicable door width range where ADA opening force compliance is a primary concern. The LCN 2010 is certified for less than 5.0 lbs of opening force on a 36-inch door, which is within ADA requirements.

LCN Cylinder Assembly: What Adjustable Backcheck Means

The backcheck is the resistance the closer provides as the door approaches its maximum open position. Without backcheck, a door opened quickly hits the stop hard - damaging the door, the frame, the wall, and potentially the person holding it. The adjustable hydraulic backcheck in the 2011-3071 cylinder allows the installer to set both the point at which backcheck resistance begins and the resistance level itself. The LCN catalog designates this as PT4D - adjustable hydraulic backcheck. It's separate from any optional track bumper assembly, which mounts in the track and provides a physical stop independent of the hydraulic backcheck.

Maximum opening for butt hinge template installations is 180° without a track bumper, and limited to 110° with the optional track bumper installed. Hold-open track provides adjustable hold-open points from 85° to 110°. For aluminum frame installations, minimum 4" x 4" tube frame is required to house the cylinder.
