Von Duprin 040087 Chexit PCB Kit - Infinite Release

Non-Finished. After 8/17/2016

The Von Duprin 040087 is the OEM Chexit PCB kit with Infinite Release for Von Duprin CX Delayed Egress exit devices manufactured after 8/17/2016. This is the motor-driven design Chexit PCB- not compatible with solenoid-driven Chexit devices shipped before August 2015. The PCB is the primary control board for all Chexit functions: armed/disarmed state management, alarm activation, release delay timing, gang bus communication, fire alarm interface, inhibit input processing, alarm relay output, and secure relay output. When this board fails, all Chexit delayed egress functions stop. The 040087 restores full Chexit operation without replacing the complete device assembly.

Compatible with: CX98/99 Rim (standard and fire-rated), CX98/9927 SVR (standard and fire-rated), CX98/9949 CVC (standard and fire-rated), CX98/9950 WDC (standard and fire-rated), and CX33A/35A Rim (standard and fire-rated)- the complete Chexit-equipped 98/99 and 33/35A device families.

Von Duprin Chexit Infinite Release vs 15-Second and 30-Second Delay

The standard Chexit PCB (040086) holds the pushpad locked for 15 seconds after alarm activation, then releases automatically. The 30-second version (040088) extends that timed countdown to 30 seconds. The 040087 Infinite Release removes the automatic countdown entirely- when the pushpad is depressed and the alarm sounds, the pushpad remains locked indefinitely until authorized personnel reset it via the key switch or a remote inhibit input signal.

This behavioral difference is the critical specification decision. A 15 or 30-second automatic release satisfies NFPA 101 Section 7.2.1.6 for Special Locking Arrangements in commercial occupancies- the countdown ensures the person is never permanently trapped. Infinite Release operates under a different code framework, typically NFPA 101 Chapter 18 and 19 provisions for Controlled Egress in healthcare occupancies or under specific AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) approval. Allegion's Chexit special options instruction confirms: AHJ approval is required for any non-standard release configuration. Verify local code requirements and AHJ authorization before specifying the 040087.

Von Duprin Chexit Parts: What the PCB Controls on the New Design

The motor-driven Chexit (post-August 2015, this PCB) replaced the solenoid-driven design. The new PCB manages the motor cable connection for push pad locking and provides additional diagnostic outputs not available on the solenoid design. Key terminal functions on the 040087 board include: the Secure Relay contacts (white and violet wires) that change state when the device is not in a secured condition, the Alarm Relay contacts (1A, 24VDC rated, configurable NO or NC) that activate during alarm conditions, the Gang Bus connection (gray GNG wires) that allows up to 8 Chexit devices to release simultaneously, the Fire Alarm input for immediate pushpad release bypassing all delays, the Inhibit Input for authorized access control or card reader integration, and the Door Position Switch input for prop alarm monitoring.

The red onboard Status Indicator LED is also managed by the PCB: steady red means armed and secure, fast flash means alarm is active, slow flash means reset pending. Most field wiring issues on the Chexit are diagnosed by observing these onboard LED states.

Von Duprin Chexit Exit Device Applications for Infinite Release

The Infinite Release configuration is specified in facilities where the security response must arrive and physically authorize exit before the door opens. Common applications include behavioral health inpatient units and psychiatric facilities where elopement prevention requires staff to actively release the door, memory care and dementia units under NFPA 101 controlled egress provisions, high-value retail asset protection where a security response before release is operationally required, and K-12 school courtyard doors where exit requires active staff intervention.

In all these applications the Chexit alarm sounds the moment the pushpad is touched, the 100dB internal siren provides immediate occupant notification, and the alarm relay signals an external monitor or security panel- but the door stays locked until reset. The key switch (CX-KS) or a remote inhibit input from an access control panel provides the authorized release.
