Schlage 03-230-TLR Tubular Closed Lever is an OEM interior lever assembly designed for Schlage AD/ALX/CO/ND Series electronic lock applications. This replacement lever provides a tubular closed lever design for maintaining the original appearance and operation of compatible locksets.
The Schlage 03-230-TLR is the OEM Tubular Closed Lever for the Schlage ALX Series, ND Series, NDE Series, CO Series, and AD Series cylindrical locks, documented in all five official Schlage Service Manuals for these product lines. It is the Tubular lever profile in the closed format: the lever hub is sealed with no cylinder housing, and the lever handle is a uniform round cylindrical rod. Non-handed. ADA compliant. Used at inside trim positions. Ten finishes are available including 626AM (Satin Chrome Antimicrobial). In stock.
The Tubular Closed Lever Handle Profile at Inside Trim Positions
The Tubular lever (TLR) is the most physically distinctive design in the Schlage ND and ALX Series lever catalog. Every other lever design, including Athens, Rhodes, Sparta, and Omega, uses a handle with a cross-section that varies across the shank and grip area. The 03-230-TLR uses a uniform cylindrical rod for the full lever handle, a consistent round cross-section from the hub end to the handle tip. This round profile gives the lever its Tubular name and sets it apart visually from every other lever in the catalog.
At inside trim positions, the Tubular closed lever provides free egress without any cylinder or button mechanism in the lever body. The round handle operates with a simple downward push regardless of the user's grip angle, direction, or hand strength. Because the cross-section is the same from every approach direction, the Tubular lever is operable by users who grip the handle from any angle, which supports ADA accessibility compliance. The uniform round surface also has no undercuts, shaped recesses, or irregular contours where debris accumulates, making the 03-230-TLR easy to clean in environments where surface hygiene is monitored.
Standard vs Tactile: 03-230-TLR vs 03-230-8TR
The Tubular closed lever family has two versions. The 03-230-TLR is the standard version with a smooth cylindrical handle surface. The 03-230-8TR is the tactile version with a raised textured treatment applied around the full circumference of the round handle for hazardous area door identification per IBC and ADAAG requirements.
The 03-230-TLR is specified at all standard Tubular lever inside trim positions in the project. The 03-230-8TR applies only at doors where building code or facility policy requires the tactile warning at both inside and outside trim positions simultaneously. When sourcing a replacement inside lever for a Tubular lever door, confirm which version the door was originally specified with. Replacing a standard inside lever with a tactile version when tactile was not specified produces a mismatched trim assembly at that door.
03-230-TLR as the Inside Companion to the 03-200-TLR and No Break-Away
The 03-230-TLR is the inside trim companion to the 03-200-TLR (Tubular SFIC Lever Less Core) at the outside trim position. Both pair with the 03-042-RHO (Rhodes Rose) at their respective positions in the matching finish, as confirmed in the official Schlage ALX Series Service Manual. The 03-042-RHO is the correct rose for the Tubular lever design at both inside and outside positions, the same as Athens, Rhodes, Sparta, and all other non-Omega lever designs.
The optional break-away feature documented for Rhodes levers in the official Schlage ALX Series Data Sheet is not available on the Tubular design. Among all standard closed levers in the 03-230 family, only the Rhodes closed lever (03-230-RHO) carries the break-away option. The 03-230-TLR has a solid non-break-away lever body consistent with the standard Tubular lever specification throughout the catalog.
NDE Series and Full Function Coverage
The 03-230-TLR is documented in five Service Manuals including the Schlage NDE Series Parts Manual. The NDE exit device uses a closed lever at the inside trim position, and the 03-230-TLR provides the Tubular profile for that position on NDE installations. ALX Series functions: ALX10S (Passage), ALX70 (Classroom), ALX80 (Storeroom), ALX170 (Single Dummy), and ALX172 (Double Dummy). ND Series functions: ND10 (Passage), ND12 (Exit), ND12EL, ND12EU, ND170, ND172, ND25 (Exit with blank plate), ND30 (Patio), ND45 (Time Out), ND60-Closed (Vestibule), ND70 (Classroom), ND80 (Storeroom), ND80EL, ND80EU, ND81 (Accessible Storeroom), ND94, ND96, ND96EL, and ND96EU. Ten finishes: 605 (Bright Brass), 606 (Satin Brass), 612 (Satin Bronze), 613 (Oil Rubbed Bronze), 619 (Satin Nickel), 622 (Matte Black), 625 (Bright Chrome), 626 (Satin Chrome), 626AM (Satin Chrome Antimicrobial), and 643E (Aged Bronze). Finish must be specified at time of order.
