The Omega Lever: The Only Profile With No Tactile Variant
The Schlage ND and ALX Series lever catalog offers tactile versions of four of the five standard lever designs: Athens (8AT), Rhodes (8RO), Sparta (8SP), and Tubular (8TR). The Omega lever design has no tactile variant in any format, whether closed (03-230) or SFIC (03-200). There is no 8OME part number in the Schlage catalog. The 03-230-OME is the only Omega closed lever available, and it has a smooth handle surface.
This is a project specification decision point. When a building uses Omega levers throughout its door hardware schedule and certain doors require the tactile warning surface for hazardous area identification per IBC and ADAAG requirements, the Omega lever design cannot satisfy that tactile requirement at those specific doors. A different lever profile must be specified for doors requiring the tactile designation, or the Omega specification must be revised at those openings. All four other lever designs (Athens, Rhodes, Sparta, Tubular) offer tactile versions in the closed lever format.
The 03-042-OME Omega Rose: Required at Both Inside and Outside Positions
The Omega lever is the only lever design in the Schlage ND and ALX Series catalog that uses a dedicated rose. The official Schlage ALX Series Service Manual states: "03-042 OME inside/outside rose for Omega lever" and separately, "03-042 RHO inside/outside rose for all levers except Omega." This confirmation covers both trim positions.
When the 03-230-OME is the inside lever on an Omega trim assembly, the 03-042-OME Omega Rose must be ordered for the inside trim position as well as the outside trim position. The 03-042-RHO Rhodes Rose, which is the standard rose for every other lever design in the catalog, does not apply to Omega lever installations at any position. Using the 03-042-RHO rose at an inside Omega lever position produces a rose-to-lever fit mismatch that prevents the lever from seating correctly against the door face.
The official Schlage ALX Series Service Manual also confirms that the Omega rose is not included in the ALX chassis kit (ALX CK). The chassis kit includes two Rhodes roses as standard. When servicing a complete Omega trim assembly, both the 03-230-OME inside lever and two 03-042-OME roses must be sourced individually, not from the chassis kit.
NDE Series Coverage: Distinct From the SFIC Omega Lever
The 03-200-OME Omega SFIC Lever (for outside trim positions) is documented in four Service Manuals and does not include the NDE Series. The 03-230-OME Omega Closed Lever is documented in five Service Manuals including the Schlage NDE Series Parts Manual. The NDE exit device uses a closed lever at the inside trim position, and the 03-230-OME provides the Omega profile for that position on NDE installations where the Omega lever design is specified. This NDE coverage at the inside position applies even though the Omega SFIC lever is not available for the NDE outside trim position.
