The critical ordering requirement for the 03-042-OME is stated directly in the official Schlage ALX Series Service Manual: "Omega rose design is not available with the chassis kit." The ALX chassis kit (ALX CK) is a pre-assembled service package that includes two roses in the Rhodes design. When the Omega lever design is specified, the Omega rose (03-042-OME) must be ordered separately and is not substitutable with the Rhodes rose included in the chassis kit.

The Schlage ALX and ND Series offer a large selection of lever designs. All of these levers use one of exactly two roses in the 03-042 rose family, and the assignment between lever design and rose is mandatory based on the specific lever geometry.
The 03-042 RHO (Rhodes Rose) is the inside/outside rose for all Schlage ND and ALX Series lever designs EXCEPT the Omega. This includes Athens (ATH), Boardwalk (BRK), Broadway (BRW), Latitude (LAT), Longitude (LON), Rhodes (RHO), Saturn (SAT), Sparta (SPA), Tubular (TLR), and all tactile variants of those designs (8AT, 8BK, 8BY, 8LT, 8LN, 8RO, 8SP, 8TR).
The 03-042-OME (Omega Rose, this product) is the inside/outside rose exclusively for the Omega (OME) lever design. The Omega lever has a different profile at the point where the lever hub meets the door face. The 03-042-OME is sized and shaped for the Omega hub geometry. The 03-042 RHO rose cannot accommodate the Omega lever hub correctly, and the 03-042-OME cannot accommodate any of the other lever designs listed above.
Specifying the wrong rose for the installed lever results in a rose that does not seat properly against the door face, leaves the lever hub exposed or misaligned, and prevents the spring cage snap-in mechanism from securing the lever correctly to the trim assembly.
Schlage 03-042-OME Rose: Material, Dimensions, and Finish
Per the official Schlage ALX Series Service Manual: "Roses are wrought brass, bronze, or zinc, plated to match finish specification. Standard rose diameter 3-7/16 inches." The 3-7/16 inch diameter (approximately 87.3mm) is the standard diameter for the 03-042 rose format across the full ALX and ND Series catalog. The material used for each individual rose depends on the finish ordered, as wrought brass, bronze, and zinc each accept specific plating finishes differently.
Nine standard finishes are available: 605 (Bright Brass), 606 (Satin Brass), 612 (Satin Bronze), 613 (Oil Rubbed Bronze), 619 (Satin Nickel), 622 (Powder-Coated Matte Black), 625 (Bright Chrome), 626 (Satin Chrome), and 643e (Aged Bronze). An antimicrobial coating is available on the 626 finish (order as 626AM). The Omega lever and rose combination is available in the full nine-finish range, unlike the HSLR trim which is limited to 630 Satin Stainless Steel.
ND Series and ALX Series Coverage for the 03-042-OME
The 03-042-OME appears in the Trim Assembly diagram for the complete ALX Series function catalog (ALX10S through ALX172) and the complete ND Series function catalog (ND10 through ND97), including all standard Trim Assembly configurations and Trim with Request-to-Exit configurations. The ND Series is ANSI/BHMA A156.2-2011, Series 4000, Grade 1. The ALX Series is ANSI/BHMA A156.2-2022, Series 4000, Grade 2. Both are UL Listed for 3-hour A label fire doors.
