The 02Z adds the "Vandal" designation, indicating a significantly more robust construction standard for environments where the outside trim is expected to face sustained physical attack, deliberate forced removal attempts, prying, or repeated impact from occupants or unauthorized persons.

The 02Z is constructed entirely in stainless steel and is available in only one finish: 630 Satin Stainless Steel. Stainless steel is specified exclusively because the material provides the combination of surface hardness, impact resistance, and corrosion resistance required in high-risk institutional environments. The absence of brass, bronze, or painted finish options is not a limitation but a design specification: vandal-resistant hardware in correctional, detention, and high-security institutional applications requires the material consistency and durability that only stainless steel provides in a door trim component exposed to persistent physical stress.

Detex 02Z: Why Handing Is Required

The official Detex Price List lists the 02Z with the note "Specify handing," making it the only Detex dummy pull trim in the catalog that requires handing specification. Standard dummy pulls (02C, 02CN, 02CNV, 02WP) have no handing requirement because a simple pull handle is symmetrical from either side of the door.

The handing requirement on the 02Z indicates that the vandal-resistant mounting system is not symmetrical. The reinforced mounting brackets, anti-pry features, or the pull handle geometry of the 02Z are configured differently depending on which side of the door the hinges are on. An incorrectly handed 02Z ordered for a specific door opening will not mount in the correct orientation, placing the reinforced mounting features in the wrong position relative to the attack vectors the vandal-resistant design is intended to address.

Handing is determined from the outside of the door (the pull side, where the 02Z is installed): if the hinges are on the right when facing the door from outside, the door is right-hand. If the hinges are on the left when facing from outside, the door is left-hand. Confirm door handing before ordering.

Detex 02Z: 10 Series and 20 Series Compatibility

The 02Z is compatible with the Detex Advantex 10 Series and 20 Series exit devices only. The 10 Series is the standard Detex rim exit alarm device. The 20 Series covers the surface vertical rod configuration of the same Advantex platform. Neither the 40/50 Series narrow stile devices nor the 60/70/80 Series CVR devices use the 02Z trim. The vandal pull format and its mounting configuration are specific to the wide stile 10 and 20 Series body dimensions.

The 02C (for 10 and 20 Series) is the standard dummy pull for the same device series. The 02Z is the vandal-resistant upgrade for that same installation when the application environment demands a higher level of trim durability and tamper resistance. The two trims serve the same device series but are not interchangeable due to the 02Z handing requirement and the reinforced mounting system that differs from the standard 02C backplate configuration.
