The Falcon 022108-000-60 is the OEM RU Series Retractor Spring for the Falcon T Series and RU Series cylindrical locks, documented in the Falcon T Series Parts Manual (doc 108002) as Item 9 in the chassis assembly diagram. The T Series Parts Manual lists the retractor spring as a pair, specifying two per chassis assembly. The 022108-000-60 is sold as a single spring. Two units are required per lock when replacing both retractor springs. The "-60" suffix identifies a spring steel material designation within the Falcon part numbering system. In stock.

What the 022108-000-60 Retractor Spring Does

In the T Series chassis assembly, the complete retractor sub-assembly consists of four component types listed consecutively in the Parts Manual: Item 7 is the Retractor cam body (022106-002-55), Item 8 is the Retractor Insert pair (022986-001-50, two per lock), Item 9 is the Retractor Spring pair (022108-000-60, two per lock), and Item 10 is the Retractor Spring Retainer (022112-000-30, one per lock). The 022108-000-60 spring is Item 9 - the return force component of this sub-assembly.

During lever operation, the spindle cams push the Retractor (022106-002-55) linearly toward the latch bolt. The Retractor moves against the spring force provided by both 022108-000-60 springs. After the lever is released, the springs push the Retractor back to its original rest position. This retractor return motion also allows the inside lever and outside lever to return to horizontal rest position through the spindle and hub assemblies. If the springs lose their tension or break, the retractor does not return to rest position after lever release, and the latch bolt fails to re-extend after retraction. A door with failed retractor springs will not stay latched when closed, because the latch bolt cannot fully extend into the strike to capture the door.

The T Series chassis uses two springs rather than one to provide balanced return force on both sides of the retractor body. A single spring would cause the retractor to return unevenly, placing lateral stress on the retractor's guide surfaces within the chassis housing. Over time, uneven spring force causes accelerated wear on the retractor guides and the housing case (022114-000-30). Replacing both retractor springs simultaneously during service is the correct practice, regardless of whether both appear worn, because springs in identical service conditions fatigue at similar rates.

Falcon RU Series and T Series: Shared Retractor Spring

The "RU Series" designation in the product name reflects the same cross-series architecture described in the Falcon T Series Parts Manual for the complete retractor sub-assembly. The Falcon RU Series retrofit cylindrical lock uses the same retractor components as the T Series, including the 022108-000-60 retractor spring. The RU Series is designed as a retrofit upgrade for existing door preparations, with an outer installation profile that fits over older hardware preparation without requiring new door routing. The retractor sub-assembly at the core of the RU Series chassis is built on the same component specifications as the T Series, making the 022108-000-60 applicable to both product lines.

When to Replace the Falcon 022108-000-60 Retractor Spring

Retractor spring failure presents as a lever that returns to horizontal position slowly or incompletely after being depressed, or a latch bolt that does not fully extend after retraction. In some cases, the lever returns to rest position but the latch bolt remains partially retracted because the retractor is not returning far enough to allow full latch bolt extension. This is most common in high-cycle installations where the spring has been compressed and released hundreds of thousands of times over the device life.

The 022108-000-60 is stocked individually. When ordering for a service call where both springs require replacement, order two units of the 022108-000-60. The Part number 022108-001-60 (with "-001" suffix) listed in some T Series Parts Manual editions refers to a design variant of the same spring. Confirm the correct suffix with the installed lock's manufacture date when needed.
