The Von Duprin 010060 is the OEM Security Screw Hex Key, 1/8 inch, documented in the Von Duprin Price Book (Effective October 7, 2024). It is the specialized tool required to install and remove the anti-tamper security screws used in Von Duprin exit device outside trim assemblies. The 1/8 inch hex drive on security screws is smaller than the 5/32 inch drive on standard Von Duprin trim screws and dogging bolts, making the 010060 a distinct, separate tool from the 010059 (5/32 inch hex wrench). The two are not interchangeable. Available (3-4 weeks).
What Von Duprin Security Screws Are and Where They Are Used
Von Duprin installation instructions reference a Screw Chart that identifies specific screw types for each position in the exit device assembly. Within that chart, security screws occupy specific positions in the outside trim assembly -the rose mounting points, the cylinder guard retaining points, and in some configurations the trim hub retaining positions. These are the screw positions that face the corridor side of the door, accessible to building occupants, visitors, and the general public.
Standard hex socket trim screws in Von Duprin outside trim require a 5/32 inch hex key, the same size used for hex dogging. A person with a generic hex key set or a standard Von Duprin dogging key could potentially use it to remove the outside trim rose or cylinder guard if only standard screws were used. Security screws replace these standard screws at the most sensitive positions, using a 1/8 inch hex socket that is too small for the 5/32 inch dogging key to engage. The result is outside trim that cannot be disassembled without the specific 1/8 inch security screw hex key.
The 010060 is the OEM tool Allegion produces for this purpose. The Von Duprin-specific version is built to the length needed for correct engagement with the recessed security screw positions in the trim assembly, which may be deeper than a standard 1/8 inch Allen wrench can reach from the door face.
Von Duprin 010060 vs 010059: Critical Distinction
Both the 010059 and 010060 are hex keys used in Von Duprin exit device service, but they serve completely different purposes and are not substitutes for each other.
The 010059 is a 5/32 inch hex wrench used for two general service tasks: operating the hex dogging bolt in the device center case, and driving the standard #8 hex socket trim screws that secure the outside trim assembly to the device. This tool is used in routine installation and service on virtually every Von Duprin device with hex dogging.
The 010060 is a 1/8 inch hex key used specifically for security screws in high-security trim configurations. It cannot drive the 5/32 inch hex socket dogging bolt or standard #8 trim screws -the 1/8 inch tip is too small to engage those fasteners. It is only needed when the installed outside trim uses 1/8 inch hex security screws at the anti-tamper positions.
Facilities that specify Von Duprin security trim for high-risk applications require both keys in their service kit: the 010059 for dogging and general trim service, and the 010060 specifically for the security screw positions that provide tamper resistance on the outside trim assembly.
Applications for the Von Duprin 010060 Security Screw Hex Key
The 010060 is used in applications where outside trim tamper resistance is a specification or code requirement. These include correctional facilities and detention centers where hardware manipulation is a security risk, psychiatric and behavioral health facilities where anti-tamper hardware is required by facility standards, juvenile residential facilities, and high-security commercial or government installations with strict hardware security policies.
In these environments, the 33A and 35A Series and the 98 and 99 Series exit devices are commonly specified with anti-tamper trim configurations. The 010060 is the required service tool for any facility maintaining this hardware, enabling authorized technicians to remove and reinstall the outside trim when rekeying, function changes, or hardware replacement is needed -while the security screw system remains as a deterrent against unauthorized disassembly by non-authorized persons.
