What the Detex 02WP Wire Pull Is and Why CVR Devices Use It

The "WP" designation in the Detex trim catalog stands for Wire Pull, referring to the cylindrical bar pull profile. A wire pull trim uses a round cylindrical bar (12 inches long, 1 inch diameter in the 02WP) as the exterior pull surface, mounted on two posts that attach to the door face through the device backplate or mounting hardware. This is physically distinct from the plate-style 02C/CN/CNV trim, which uses a flat backplate and a cast pull handle.

The official Detex Advantex Wide Pulls and Plates catalog states: "WP Trim available with 70/80 Series only." This applies to the Wide Stile section of the catalog. The 70 and 80 Series are Wide Stile CVR devices: the 70 Series covers wide stile CVR on wood doors, and the 80 Series covers wide stile CVR on hollow metal doors. Both use concealed vertical rods within the door stile, which means the door face has no surface-mounted rods or trim brackets. This clean door face is what allows the 12 inch cylindrical bar pull to span the width of the door stile without hardware interference.

The 60 Series CVR application also accepts the 02WP, confirmed in the official Detex 60 Series Trim Designs page and the Detex Price List under the Narrow Stile CVR section. The 02WP is the wire pull option for 60 Series CVR configurations where a bar-style exterior pull is specified instead of the plate-based 02CNV trim.

Detex 02WP vs 02C/CN/CNV: Two Different Dummy Pull Formats

Both the 02WP and the 02C/CN/CNV carry BHMA function 02 (dummy pull with no mechanical entry capability) but they are different trim formats for different device series and installation conditions.

The 02C/CN/CNV is the backplate-mounted outside trim for Advantex 10, 20, 40, 50, and 60 Series exit alarm devices. It attaches to a device-specific backplate (BP-1, BP-2, or BP-10) and requires the correct C, CN, or CNV variant for the installed device series. The handle is cast and integrated with the backplate assembly.

The 02WP is the two-post bar pull for 70, 80, and 60 Series CVR devices. There is no C, CN, or CNV variant selection required. The cylindrical stainless steel bar mounts via two posts directly to the wide stile door face. The stainless steel construction of the WP trim is documented in the official Detex catalog: "C and W Trims are Stainless Steel." The 02C/CN/CNV uses a different material construction appropriate for its plate-based format. The 02WP does not offer the 693 (Black Painted) and 695 (Dark Bronze Painted) finishes that are available on the 02C/CN/CNV, because the stainless steel bar construction does not accept painted finishes in the same way as the plate-based trim components.

Detex 02WP Finishes and Function Change Capability

Eight finishes are available for the 02WP: 605 (Bright Brass), 606 (Satin Brass), 611 (Polished Bronze), 612 (Satin Bronze), 613 (Oil Rubbed Bronze), 625 (Bright Chrome), 629 (Bright Chrome US32), and 630 (Satin Stainless Steel). Finish must be specified at time of order. The 12 inch cylindrical bar is fully visible on the exterior face of the door, making finish selection a match to the surrounding architectural hardware.

Per the official Detex trim catalog documentation: "The versatile design of the trims, combined with the device mounting plate, makes changing functions as simple as replacing the outside trim. This can easily be done without removing the exit device from the door."
