The Detex 02C/CN/CNV is the OEM Dummy Pull outside trim for the Detex Advantex exit device series, documented in the official Detex Narrow Pull and Plate Trim Catalog and Wide Pull and Plate Trim Catalog. It carries the BHMA function 02 designation, which defines it as a dummy pull: an exterior pull handle with no cylinder, no OKC provision, and no mechanical connection to any locking mechanism. Device type and finish must be specified at time of order. Available (3-4 weeks).
Three variants are available. The 02C uses the Wide backplate (BP-1 or BP-11) for the 10 and 20 Series Detex exit alarm devices. The 02CN uses the Narrow backplate (BP-2) for the 40 and 50 Series. The 02CNV uses the Narrow CVR backplate (BP-10) for the 60 Series concealed vertical rod devices. Ordering the wrong variant for the installed device series produces a misaligned backplate that does not fit the device mounting hole pattern on the door.
What the BHMA Function 02 Dummy Pull Designation Means
Detex uses BHMA function designations for all outside trim, as documented in the official Detex trim catalog. The function 01 designation covers Exit Only with a cover plate and no hardware at all. The function 02 designation covers a dummy pull: a pull handle that is present on the exterior but has no mechanical effect on the lock or latch. The function 03 designation covers key retracts latch, where a rim cylinder provides outside keyed entry capability.
The 02C/CN/CNV sits between these two functional extremes. It provides something the 01C/CN/CNV cover plate does not: a physical surface for a person outside to pull the door open. When the door is electronically released by a connected access control system, or when the exit device releases from inside, the person approaching from outside uses the 02 dummy pull handle to open the door. The handle itself performs only this pull function. It does not retract any latch, does not interact with any cylinder, and does not provide any mechanical means to open a locked door.
Specifying the 02 instead of the 03 is the correct decision when electronic access control handles all outside entry and no mechanical key backup is needed or wanted at that door opening. A facility with full electronic access control - where a lost key cannot be used to enter a secured door - can use the 02 trim on exit alarm doors to provide ergonomic pull capability for authorized personnel while maintaining a completely keyless exterior.
02C/CN/CNV vs 01C/CN/CNV: When the Dummy Pull Handle Is Needed
The 01C/CN/CNV cover plate leaves a completely blank exterior with no hardware. A person who approaches from outside and has received electronic authorization has no handle to pull. If the door has a closer that holds it shut against spring pressure, a blank cover plate exterior forces the person to use the door edge or frame to pull the door open, which is neither ergonomic nor appropriate for a commercial installation.
The 02C/CN/CNV solves this by adding a proper pull handle in the same configuration: no cylinder, no keyed entry, just a pull handle for the physical act of opening the door after it has been released. This is the complete answer to the "how does an authorized person actually open the door from outside" question in a full electronic access control installation without a door operator.
Detex Dummy Pull: Ten Finish Options and Function Change Capability
Ten finishes are available for the 02C/CN/CNV: 605 (Bright Brass), 606 (Satin Brass), 611 (Polished Bronze), 612 (Satin Bronze), 613 (Oil Rubbed Bronze), 625 (Bright Chrome), 629 (Bright Chrome US32), 630 (Satin Stainless Steel), 693 (Black Painted), and 695 (Dark Bronze Painted). The wider finish range compared to the 01C/CN/CNV cover plate reflects the greater visible surface area of the pull handle body, which must match the surrounding architectural hardware finish.
Per the official Detex trim catalog, changing from one outside trim function to another does not require removing the exit device from the door. The 02C/CN/CNV can replace a previously installed 01C/CN/CNV cover plate, or be replaced by a 03C/CN/CNV key trim, by swapping the outside trim assembly without disturbing the device body or the door mounting hardware.
